Resumen
In this monograph, Argentina approved temporary legislation allowing the first gas to be exported to Chile in over a decade, the result of Chile's Quintero LNG terminal going down for maintenance.
Chile, meanwhile, has for the past two years approved one-off export deals to cover winter gas shortages in Argentina.
Brazil, Bolivia and Argentina are all looking to bolster production, while simultaneously driving domestic demand, with cross border trades opening up between nations where they hadpreviously been curtailed.
After years of political hostility, a succession of one-off gas trades and tentatively positive political rhetoric suggests that Southern Cone nations may finally be ready to embrace the long-held dream of a regional gas market.
However, the status quo may prove difficult to overturn.
